Keep decorations away from heat sources, walkways and exits, and do not overload outlets or power bars. Use approved chargers for light-up costumes and decorations. Stop using batteries right away if they become hot, swollen or damaged, or produce smoke.

Wherever possible, avoid driving on residential streets between 5 to 9 p.m. If you need to drive, slow down, be patient and watch for trick-or-treaters coming from unexpected directions. Carry a flashlight, add reflective tape to costumes or treat bags, travel in groups, and use sidewalks and crosswalks.

What it means for you:Wherever possible, avoid driving on residential streets between 5 to 9 p.m. Help trick-or-treaters stay visible and use sidewalks and crosswalks.
